THE FLAGRUM: A WEAPON DESIGNED BY SATAN INSPIRED EVIL MEN.
FLAGRUM: A WEAPON FASHIONED BY DEVIL INSPIRED EVIL MEN.
The whip used on our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is called FLAGRUM. It was made of tough animal hide, with multiple tentacles that were individually beaded with metals like lead, bones and other such materials. It was designed by evil men to tear up the human skin. Jesus Christ could have been whipped 39 times on his back with this wicked instrument. Jewish custom didn’t allow up to forty lashes. His back would have been torn to shreds. He bore this punishment for no guilt of his own. He did this for us. Paul was also whipped. Whether a flagrum was also used on him we don’t know for sure. Paul took especial pleasure in suffering for Jesus Christ. The one who he hated, and who’s followers he had vowed to destroy. Paul later became what you may call “The Champion General of Jesus Christ.”
“Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.”
2 Corinthians 11:24 KJV
Pontius Pilate had intended to whip Jesus Christ and release him thinking that was enough punishment for someone who really had no known crime apart from the envy of the Jewish religious leader who were scared of the increasing popularity and follower-ship of Jesus Christ. So the whipping with the flagrum was merciless. The practice by the Roman authorities was to have two people with a flagrum each standing on both sides of the victim. So they exacted the damage from both sides.
But alas the Jews wanted more. They clamored for his crucifixion and called down a curse upon themselves and their lineage -
“Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.”
Matthew 27:25 KJV
But God who declares the end from the beginning had caused his prophet centuries ago to prophesy thus:
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Isaiah 53:5-6 KJV.
As the flagrum tore flesh from Jesus’s back, he bled profusely. Elements of the lead beaded onto the tentacles would have gradually sipped into Jesus’s body. A state of delirium could have ensued. He was weak and couldn’t bear the weight of the cross that he was forced to carry before Simon from Lybia in North Africa was made to help him carry it to Calvary.
Take a moment to appreciate what our Lord and Savior did for us. All he needed to do to escape this torture and crucifixion was to deny his teachings and he would have been released.
Please remember that he’s coming back again as he promised. This time around, he’s not coming to beg for us to follow him, but to exact justice, after rescuing his true believers.
This is why The Rapture MUST take place because God will never punish the innocent and the guilty together. We saw it with Noah and Lot. In a sense they were both raptured from the flood and destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah respectively. And note that just as the cross was a place where he obtained victory over sin and death after his resurrection, his stripes give us the birthright to ask for our healing. Everything the devil means for bad God Almighty turns over for our good, in Christ Jesus. May God prepare us to receive him when he returns like the wise virgins did.
